I am a little 'old school' when it comes to cameras and feel the a viewfinder is an important inclusion in this digital age. There are occasions when, particularly in bright light, utilising the LCD screen alone can be frustrating. I bought one of these cameras some 4-5 years ago when they first came on the market, however, my wife saw the benefits of this particular camera and hijacked it. Yes, by modern standards where the pixel is king, this camera is a lightweight with but 7.2 mega pixels. However it more than makes up for this with an excellent 'Zeiss Tessar Lens'. Clarity and brightness are superb and the whole camera is solidly put together which again in the modern market is a rarity with lightweight plastics being the norm. So I have been trawling the internet for a couple of years now for another one of these fine cameras...during which time I purchased a 'C***n' with a viewfinder and 12.2 mega pixel capability. Although the features are fairly impressive, the lens performance is less so. I missed one of these cameras a few weeks ago and was pretty annoyed with myself when I missed the closure of the bidding by being indisposed overseas with internet failure! However within a few days another one popped up on ebay....talk about 'waiting for buses'. I bode my time, asked the seller relevant questions then pounced with seconds to spare at the end of the sale. The camera arrived as promised and in the condition described. Great! You could be forgiven thinning that it is a little 'sad' to have his and hers matching cameras but I work overseas 9 months of the year. To be reunited with a camera that does all I could ask of it, whilst also being a rugged and quality piece of kit is a bonus. Sony, you missed a trick by discontinuing this style of camera and following the generic trend of lightweight, garishly coloured, hand bag 'clicker boxes'. Thank you ebay.Read full review
I have always thought Sony's W series cameras with Real Image Processer are for me the best all-rounders. Thank you for your excellent service in providing this one. It will give me much photographic pleasure.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned
Tese Sony cameras are perfect for my needs, but my colleagues keep drowning them because they don`t check and make sure the underwater housing is sealed properly or cleaned properly, which is why I`ve bought 6 in the last 2 years, good job they are such a good price on e bay, or I would have to invest in a new UW housing for a completely different camera !!! I wouldn`t recommend this type of camera to a friend, because I might need to buy some more and there`s only so many left, if you know what I mean, and I`m sure that you do !
I bought this camera recently as my old one packed up and have been very pleased with the quality of the photos it produces. There are numerous settings to play around with albeit most of these just add effects that can be achieved using a half decent photo editing software. It has 3x optical zoom and shake stabilization which is very efficient and fast. On the downside it is a bulky and fairly weighty camera and gets through batteries quickly. It comes with a AA battery charger and 4 AA batteries and a nice leather carry case. All in all this is not the best camera on the market but in terms of photo quality it far exceeded my expectations.
An excellent camera in a smart black metal body (the DSC-W7 is the same with a silver body) Good features - good quality Carl Zeiss lens with 3 x zoom, large LCD to make it easy to frame and view pictures but also has ordinary viewfinder to save power, excellent image quality, uses AA batteries rather than s special type, strong metal body for protection (has been dropped a couple of times but still works ok), manual focus and exposure controls plus lots of different scene modes. Bad points - autofocus in movie mode is poor (can be blurred at times), poor performance in low light as the ISO speed can only go up to 400, flash is not powerful enough (range around 12ft)
