This box set spans out the entire career of the beach boys, and is really worth the price. disc one is their early surf music, it's basically just two different songs repeated 30 times, but nevertheless it is brilliant, fun party rock 'n' roll. disc two is the best disc by some distance, as it features everything from pet sounds and smile, two of the best albums ever. much of the smile material is unreleased, and only available here. it's amazingly creative psychedelic pop, a far cry form disc 1. disc 3 is far too inconsistent to match the previous one, but it still contains some of their best songs ever, like wild honey, forever, sound of music, disney girls, and the sensational till i die. brian wilson doesn't have much input into disc 4, which is pretty unspectacular. the only real highlights are the first and the last songs, sail on sailor and kokomo, neither of which match their earlier work. disc 5 is just a load of demos, which probably only interests the beach boys obsessives. but buy this box set anyway, as the first 3 discs contain the best pop music of all time.Read full review
