Product was as described, indeed the damage to the box was not as much as expected. I was pleasantly surprised. I received the boxset early and have been watching and enjoying it. It was an excellent item to round out LGBTQ Pride month and Pride celebration in NYC

I was binge watching the episodes on Netflix and decided to purchase the show on DVD to not go through the trouble of the show leaving Netflix, I purchased the box set brand new and all of the CDs do have scratches on the backs of all of them. Not enjoyable to watch at all. I have had to plug and unplug my Bluray player multiple times because it has frozen so much.

This is one of the best tv series ever made! The box itself is very well designed, it incoperates images from each of the original cases. All of the disks (except the added bonus disk at the end) are exactly as the orininal DVD releases. The only negatives are that (1) the disks tend to 'freeze' in certain scenes (even when played in different DVD players, and there are no scratches that I can see). I do not know why this is. (2) On my brand new top of the line 55' Visio the lack of picture quality becomes very apparent (as apposed to veiwing on smaller tube sets). I do not know if this was because of lower quality cameras used in filming, or if the disks in this set were just not manufactured up to par with other standard DVDs. These two negatives are dissapointing but I am going to keep the set anyway because I love the show so much! Perhaps I might buy each set to replace all but the extra bonus disk if the picture quality appears better on those. As far as the show itself, if you have not seen Queer As Folk before, gay or straight, I highly recomend it. It is funny, heartfelt and serious all at the same time. You are going to love this series no matter what your taste or orientation!Read full review
I love having the entire set in one - though I have to admit the packaging isn't as attractive as I would have liked. The purchase of this box set was ALMOST superfluous since I already had each season's individual box sets; but this set comes with one (sadly only one) bonus disc with some great stuff on it - especially a ninety minute reunion special. As a die hard Queer As Folk fan, it was essential that I make this purchase. At over a hundred dollars, though (I got it cheaper than retail by buying off Ebay), it might not be the wisest purchase for NON die hard fans who already possess the season sets. If you love Queer As Folk and don't have the previous releases, this is the way to go, though!
Queer as Folk is one of the most amazing shows out there. I wanted to buy the complete series since I have been a longtime fan ever since the beginning. Unfortunately, the complete DVD boxset has major manufacturing problems. I have been doing some research and have found out this is a common problem. Entire discs are unreadable. Some will play, but then certain episodes will be unwatchable or skip. When I received the brand new boxset, all of the discs contained scratches. Some of them were loose from their disc holders. One was even discolored, and some of the others had a strange glue substance on them. It really is a shame since I do want the entire series. Visually, the boxset looks great, but the discs are in terrible shape. I have read that people have done multiple returns before and had the same luck. It is definitely a manufacturing problem. Next time, I intend on buying all of the seasons individually. It may be more money, but as far as reviews go, people have had much more success that way. You definitely want a show you can watch. With a show as great as Queer as Folk, you won't want to miss a minute of it.Read full review
Queer as Folk is not for everyone, but it is a show that everyone should watch. The world would be a better place if everyone could watch QAF without being turned off by the themes or repulsed by the sex. The drama is first class and the characters are multidimensional. One cannot help but become invested in the character’s stories. The producers have created the gay fantasy world of Liberty Ave. Although most American cities have a gay district, few are bedecked with spectacular dance clubs and homey bars (no pun intended), filled with fabulous 20 something men. The Liberty Ave. night life is intended as a visual feast, and as a backdrop for the real feast: the story lines. The gay sex pushes the envelope, but stops short of becoming real porn. The opening sex scene between Brian and Justin is a cinematic milestone and lays the foundation for the series. As stated earlier, the world would be a better place if people could watch QAF, especially the kissing, in a more matter of fact way. Accepting true affection between men is a big step in ending homophobia and promoting understanding of alternative lifestyles. That alone is reason enough for people of all orientations to watch QAF. On the negative side, as already mentioned in other reviews, the packaging of the DVDs leaves a lot to be desired. There are minor glitches in the DVDs which could be caused by poor quality DVD production and/or poor quality packaging. But that’s not reason enough not to buy the complete Queer as Folk DVD collection, especially if you want an overview of the gay lifestyle integrated into a top notch drama.Read full review
This is a great series and I was greatly saddened when Show time ended it. However, my thoughts on the show is a semi-true outlook of what life is like to be gay. One of many shows that portray a realistic view of the Homosexual world. If you take out the amount of drugs that is used. The view of what life is like for an 18 year old to be in school, as the only student that is "Out" and having other students hate or discriminate towards. This is a good view of how Children are treated in today's world, when they find that they are Gay. As well of the story that Justin has, the view of Micheal and having to show a "Straight" life in the work force, is also a good view of most employment. Every show will have its Hollywood spin, and this show doesn't have any lack of it. The Drugs, Backstage of the clubs; bar and parties are not a realistic view. But it does ad entertainment to the show.Read full review
QAF is/was controversial, however, it was an excellent series, but should only be viewed by those with a semi-open mind who can see past the extraneous details to see the humanity in each of the characters. It's not really about what it's like to be gay so much as it's about what it means to love and be human, about the struggles we all face in the world. Although the series was graphic at times, I didn't find it disturbing at all. Instead, I was transfixed by the depth of each character, the romance between the two main characters and the struggles all of them had to endure to get through their lives amidst all of the prejudice and hypocrisy that litters every facet of our society. Anyone who's unsure whether this series is for them, watch the clips available on YouTube, paying particular attention to the parts between Brian and Justin. Watch 10 different clips. If you aren't intrigued at the end of it at least a little, this isn't for you. However, if like me you find the characters as compelling and dizzying as I have, you'll probably love it to the point of obsession. (Warning: this is not for an under 18 crowd or anyone who gets upset at nudity. The show is blatant, but the stories behind each character are totally worth growing up for if you haven't already. Enjoyable by both gay and straight, but only if you've the maturity to look past the nudity and see the person and motivations behind each character.)Read full review
This series is courageous, outrageous, controversial, dramatic, funny, explicit, heart-warming and heart-breaking. The first episode (which actually combines episodes one and two) is a big shock, because the actors and crew treat the subject with unflinching honesty. They don't hold anything back. As the series goes on, the graphic sexuality becomes just another part of the characters' lives, often working to accentuate whatever circumstances their relationships may be in. If you watch two or three episodes, you're hooked and will do the same thing I did---watch as many episodes as possible, one after the other. Friendships break, are fixed, new people come into the lives of the characters. New romances are forged, old ones die...but the fact that you come to love the characters, you cry for them when they hurt, you cheer (and scream and holler) when good things happen to them, that they feel like family in the end...that's the constant. TV doesn't get any better than this.Read full review
This series is one I hold close to my heart. I started watching it in secret when I was 12 years old, after my family went to bed. At first it was for the eye candy, but I found myself completely enveloped in the characters and how their lives would pan out in each episode. You really feel like you know the people you're watching and you instantly fall in love with them. It takes a series with heart to make you truly care about what happens to these fictional characters. And this show has no shortage of that. Not only does it have heart, it has laughter, sadness and there is always that awesome eye-candy ;)
