The Belmont legacy of vampire hunters begins with Castlevania Legends, a prequel starring the first of the fearless family members to challenge Dracula, Sonia Belmont. To help her confront the Prince of Darkness, you must guide Sonia through five decrepit areas in the Transylvanian castle, each filled with flying, crawling, and slithering monsters. Sonia can crack and snap the famed Belmont whip to subdue her enemies, or acquire more powerful attacks in the form of "soul weapons" by defeating bosses. <br><br>Each soul weapon consumes a varying number of hearts, which are replenished by whipping candles throughout Dracula's castle. Five soul weapons are available in total, including wind, ice, flame, "saint," and magic. Players can also attempt to locate a hidden cross, vial of holy water, dagger, axe, and pocket watch somewhere within the fortress to influence the ending. Unlimited continues are available, and progress can be resumed via passwords provided at the end of each stage.

Another classic installment of the Castlevania saga that bridges the tradition of all the games...This is a game for true Castlevania fanatics. Like the other two Gameboy games; this game is short, but full of challenges. The old school "Vania tunes", along with Dracula and his minions; are all the key elements that make playing Castlevania a very unique experience. Be it a lesson in Belmont history or just another reason to whip on some goons; this is a game only for those that are not afraid of the creatures of the night. Average Adventure drags down Great Premise
This is the game that "Castlevania Adventure" should have been, with the exception of the maddeningly frustrating climbing/bat sections this game is solid (unlike the broken mess of "Adventure") and in spots very fun. The problem and criticism surrounding this title comes when you realize that not only did this game have to directly follow two masterpieces of the series, "Belmont's Revenge" also on the gameboy, and "Symphony of the Night" on the PSX, Both of which it pales next to in comparison save for story, where hands down it still beats "Revenge". The Good- Excellent origin story for the series (much more interesting than the predictable yawn-fest of "Lament of Innocence") 80% solid gameplay (those darn bats ruin the whole game for many) and it is one of the last "ClassicVanias" ... This is the game that "Castlevania Adventure" should have been, with the exception of the maddeningly frustrating climbing/bat sections this game is solid (unlike the broken mess of "Adventure") and in spots very fun. The Bad- The story is no longer canon (IGA, director of the series, really dropped the ball here as a proper remake of this game I cannot help but think would have been much more fun than "Lament"). The gameplay is not as finely tuned as most other Classic CV titles. Dull, largely empty backgrounds, average and below sprite work, and a mostly average soundtrack give the impression that the creators had a wonderful story and not the will to execute/tell it properly, so that a mediocre game rests where a masterpiece should be. ..And those darn BATS! All in all I would rate this a slightly below average classic Castlevania (putting aside the story, which is excellent and far superior to the mold of just "Dracula has awoken (early) go kill him again." of most CV games) and a slightly above average action game for the gameboy. This does not warrant the huge price tag attached to the game these days however, and to all but obsessive CV completests I would recommend the terrific "Belmont's Revenge" instead, which usually costs about half as much and is a better game overall.

A great rare game for real gamer
This game is for the original game boy. The graphic are simple but they became hard to see after a while. All the level are though enough for all player. If you like the style of the vampire hunter it's a game to owned.

Be A Legend With Castlevania Legends
Castlevania Legends is my favorite Castlevania game for the gameboy.I love the graphics and sound.Its a hard to find classic but if you see it pick it up fast.
