Well made and with pretty good sound quality. I use it as a posh light switch mainly, but it has many other features and uses. Simple set-up, even for me and can be personalised if you want to change sounds and some features.

As an Apple fan I held of for ages thinking I should get an Apple HomePod but could not justify the price with such limited functionality. I eventually went for the Amazon Echo 2nd generation and was very impressed. On a very basic level you get a good internet radio, speaker, timer, list facility etc. It is very easy to set up and use. I have mine linked in already to my Wiser central heating set up and I’m gradually linking in lights, plugs and locks via a SmartThings hub. The voice recognition is spot on and the App fairly easy to use. My wife has embraced it and uses the add to shopping list all the time. I am so impressed that I have ordered an Echo Plus for the improved speaker capability, not that the standard speaker is lacking. I can see that I will end up with more devices in various rooms and I am looking forward to getting an Amazon Fire Stick for the TV to add voice control to my Ring Doorbell and TV. To sum up a good quality device especially if you have Amazon music, you just just have to embrace it and use your imagination.Read full review

Having got 'Alexa' connected to the internet I had to get a music 'supplier'. I used Amazon Music at £3.99 per month. 40 Million tunes just a voice command away. Plus I get any radio and answers to almost all my questions!!! Drawbacks> Very few. (there are some obscure bits of music that Amazon does not provide e.g. Elton John - Friends Soundtrack, Richie Havens - Great Blind Degree, but these are not available on CD so It's no great surprise!) The sound quality is excellent and the 'footprint' is tiny. A good 'HiFi' may be better quality sound overall but the cost, footprint and ease of use makes this a great piece of kit for general use around the house. AND now I don't have to store 500 CDs!!!

VFM - the Echo Plus (2nd Gen) we have bought, after lots of research with other smart hubs, is very very good. Sound is rich and even on half volume easily fills our large kitchen with music 🎵... and as good as other smart speakers costing much more money. The Echo was easy to set up with the Alexa App and link up to our WiFi. It’s quite discreet sat in the side and I really like the button on the top of the Echo to switch the unit off so not able to listen to anything. We have already linked it up to our BBC account and between that and our Amazon Prime membership it seems to play all the music and radio stations we like. We have not yet had to.buy into any additional music services. Not sure we needed the Plus model and perhaps should have just gone with the (3rd Gen) Echo as we have no additional smart items to link with it. But it was such a good price it was hard not to buy it. We did consider spending a lot more money on a music hub - Apple Home hub that is just fantastic at £400, Bose & Sonos that are both very similar at around £200... BUT they are double - quadruple the price of the Echo. VFM the Echo is great 👍 so I would highly recommend it. If you have loads of money and don’t care how much you spend buy one the other models out there but if you want VFM & a great little product - by the Echo. 😆Read full review
