I bought this product for my husband, really he is not a professional when it comes to recording. It is a good product but a bit big and heavy after our small camcorder and the dislike was we never received the mains battery charger which was in the advert. Overall we are really pleased with it and has a fantastic zoom and clear picture quality for its age, so will do us for a few years. Regards x
Love it

My applogies for late literature, What do I think a very good camera and excellant value for money, I'm glad I bought such even if it is 10 years old its got alot more than a handycam can offer to a student or amatuer in video/photo. Thankyou once again.

This is a camcorder that will transform the competent amateur's videos into profesional films. I have owned digital camcorders for a long time. Digi8 Sony - good amateur camcorders, however there is a but. But they are for the amateur fast panning and the picture will blur - this can be "arty" but more often is annoying and has to be edited out. And when I have shot weddings I have had to be careful not to get break-up at crucial moments. The Canon is a different - broadcast quality. Camera movement is movement, nothing untoward. It has many features and to date I have not yet got to master or even fully explore all of them. One thing I do know - this is a large piece of kit and will benefit from a sturdy tripod. Something I will be buying in the very near future. This camera at a secondhand price out performs anything I could have bought new for twice as much. I have also bought (s/h off Ebay - where else?) a Canon Wide Angle lens which I think is invaluable for weddings and events. Of course upgrade one thing and you have to upgrade everything else - so I also purchased better editing software. Now I have to video more weddings and events to justify the total outlay £300 on the camcorder, £38 for WA Lens, £50 software and soon £130 on tripod. What I am saying is budget for the extras because upgrade one thing and YOU WILL want to upgrade the other bits. I promise if you are relatively competent - you will be rewarded with broadcast quality videos.Read full review
This has been on my must have list for ages. Found one that has very light use and been well looked after - like new really :-) If your computer has firewire or an express card slot you can digitise video for editing. Mini DV is still the best format imho. Cheap tapes and small to archive. Camera is gives excellent quality pictures. Without the xlr adapter sound still the weak point but external mic can be plugged in for interviews without it if needed. Got used to shooting wider angle format so a wide angle lens is on the shopping list. Only niggle is it's fairly easy to accidently knock the lock/standby switch but 99/100 aint half bad.
Purchased a Canon XM1 but upon recieving it there was no battery charger computer lead mains lead or instruction manuel. I therefore could not ascertain if this item was working or not. When purchasing an XM1 You would need all of the items above to see if the camcorder is in working order.
