About this product

Product Information

In this sequel to the 1995 mobster comedy GET SHORTY, John Travolta returns as Chili Palmer, a smooth-talking loanshark turned successful movie producer. But he's tired of the film industry, and so he sets his sights on the music business, teaming up with music producer Edie (Uma Thurman)--the widow of a recently murdered colleague. Seeing great potential in an up-and-coming singer named Linda Moon (Christina Milian), Chili makes it his goal to rescue the young talent from her sleazy manager Raji (Vince Vaughn), and make her a star. But it doesn't take long for Chili to realize that in the music industry, not everybody plays by the rules. Combining organized crime and record label know-how as they infiltrate the music industry, Chili and Edie (Thurman) must free Moon from her contract with Raji and record label exec Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel), while fending off the Russian mafia and a whole slew of enemies, played by Cedric the Entertainer, and Andre Benjamin (of OutKast), among others. Director F. Gary Gray casts The Rock against type as Raji's flamboyant, aspiring-actor bodyguard, Elliot. In fact, the film's most humorous scene might be when Elliot breaks into Edie's home in order to show Chili a monologue from the film BRING IT ON. Overall, the film's tone is a self-referential one, established in the first five minutes by Chili's complaints over the nature of sequels and the PG-13 rating system itself. From here on out, the film's humor becomes more and more dependent on the audiences knowledge of all things pop culture, with a dance scene between Travolta and Thurman recalling their memorable pairing in PULP FICTION.

    Worthy movie.

This is a worthy movie with good actors and very good character development. It is a farcical quirky comedy that keeps you engaged the entire time. I would give it four and a half stars. I felt the movie was just as good as the first, Get Shorty, but the music was not as good or memorable.

  • Be Cool

In this sequel to Get Shorty, former loan shark turned movie mogul Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is back, only this time he wants to get out of the movie business and into the music business. The movie starts off when he sees a buddy (James Woods) killed off by a Russian loan shark. His buddy just happens to be co-owner of a nearly bankrupt music label with wife Edie (Uma Thurman). He hooks up with her after he discovers an up and coming pop/soul singer (Christina Milian) who is managed by some bad people who have her hooked by the neck in an exploitative contract. Chili, who sees potential in the singer tries to wrangle her out of contract in order to jumpstart her career as well as Edie's label. Meanwhile several dubious interests all want their piece of the singer's future "pie" (so to ...

  • The Rock steals the show.........

I didn't really like Get Shorty so I don't know why I even bought this movie!! Oh yeah now I remember, my wife likes Get Shorty and owns it. Coupled with the fact that this movie cost me less than a rental even with shipping and my wife likes Get Shorty, I figured why not! Amazingly I was entertained by this film but not totaly impressed. John Travolta phones this one in and Uma has seen better days. The script is weak and the acting by Andre 3000 and Christia Milian are less than desirable. Thank god WWE's The Rock was in this film. If not for The Rock this movie would have sank into the depths of terrible film abyss along with Superman 3 and Alien vs. Predator. I give this movie a 3 but I do not reccomend anything more than watching this one if it happens to be on cable that day, and if ...

  • Basically a sequel to Get Shorty

Travolta is one of my favorite actors, but I just couldn't finish watching this movie. It was basically quite boring (in my opinion) and there's quite a bit of cursing throughout the movie. It's not an action title, but it seeks to shock the audience at random moments (like Tarantino's work). So if you don't mind lots of seemingly pointless dialogue, quirky characters, and like Travolta, random acts of violence, and/or want to see what happened after Get Shorty, then you might like this film. Otherwise, there are much better titles that get these things right without boring the audience, like the more recent Kick-Ass movie. Oh, there's also Uma Thurman, Dwayne Johnson, and Danny Devito, but despite all these good actors, they still couldn't save this film.
