A collection of some of the most highly-politicised and thought-provoking Sci-Fi ever made. Great production values at a good price.

A collection of 7 planet of the apes films in widescreen format. Very good quality of picture, audio, and subtitles. The concept of apes as masters and humans as slaves has proven to be a very powerful metaphor, and a vehicle for several strands of social and political ideas. Heston's astronaut Taylor, in the first two films, expresses a disgust with US society in 1967. Principally, racism, vivisection, and the Cold War policy of mutually-assured destruction. So deep is his disgust, that he opts to take a one-way trip to an unknown future. Then, finding no improvement, he ends everything. There are some shocking scenes towards the end of the 2nd film. • Still great political movies (original 5 films)

I hadn't watched the original Planet of the Apes series for over 30 years and had forgotten in essence how political they are. Charlton Heston ranting on about the mess men had made of the world, the extreme genocidal racism between man and ape and ape and man, a feminist character in Zira, etc. Still a message for today. View it with an eye on 1960s Mutually Assured Destruction and the race riots in the US.

    • Good films

Have not got round to watching all the films but up to now they are all pretty good. A bit of a change from the usual type of films but well worth a watch .
