Reviews
Praise for Janwillem van de Wetering "Masterly Zen mysteries." -- The New York Times Book Review "[Van de Wetering] is doing what Simenon might have done if Albert Camus had sublet his skull." --John Leonard "What makes this series so engaging is that the policemen are as quirky and complicated as the criminals." -- The Washington Post "Van de Wetering's wry style might be compared to caviar . . . Once you're hooked, there's nothing like it." -- San Diego Union Tribune

Synopsis
Amsterdam is normally sedate but today there is a riot. The body of the King' of a local street market is found in a room in his house, his head bashed in, there are only two suspects: his lovely sister or the boarder. Which one is the killer? Grijpstra and DeGier must discover the murderer's identity before another crime is committed. The fourth in the Amsterdam Cops series.', A riot has erupted in New Market Square, transforming the normally sedate streets of Amsterdam into a mass of angry protesters. So when the body of the "King" of the local street market is found in his house with his head bashed in, the police are puzzled. The adjoining street has been closed off all day, and the constables stationed outside the scene of the crime didn't detect any unusual activity. There are only two people who could have reasonably committed the violent act: the victim's roommate upstairs and his beautiful sister downstairs. Both claim to have seen or heard nothing suspicious when the crime took place. But something isn't adding up. Is one of them the killer?, Amsterdam is normally sedate but today there is a,riot. This item arrived as described and on time. I gave the four star rating because I think it was banged up a bit in shipping (envelope type package with bubble wrap) and maybe should have been put in a box with bubble wrap. My son is giving this to his new wife on their wedding day so I didn't want to chance sending it back since it was the only new version I could find online for him. I think she'll love it anyway. Overall, I'd say I'm really pleased though and would recommend this seller.

The book arrived today in excellent condition; wrapped in protective bubble wrap, and protected in a study cardboard box that was perfect for the book size. The book has sentimental value and I asked Brenham Book Company for extra care to send the book and I was trully impressed by their reply and actions took. Truly a top shelf company that I will use again!!
