Lovely film, great acting and wonderful scenery.
I missed this film when it was on tv at Xmas so decided to buy a used one which was a really reasonable price. Thoroughly enjoyed it, great acting and wonderful scenery. Am hoping to go to the Lake District in July but sadly, this is now looking unlikely.

The film manages to ruin a perfectly good story to such an extent that true ransom fans will quite rightly be disgusted at the changed plot and character betrayal. The highlights were Roger who was delightful and Harry Enfield as Mr Jackson both more or less true to the book. The only other highlight, if you could call it that, was seeing Andrew Scott in yet another baddy role (think Moriarty think bad C in Spectre!) even though his character wasn't in the Ransom book. Very disappointing film - I wish I'd never bought it

Garbage movie
If you've read and enjoyed the book stay clear of this. The BBC has a great reputation for adaptations of classic literature but this is so far wide of the mark they should be ashamed. They've changed the plot, changed the characters of all the kids and made them frankly horrible. And the adults are as bad as well. If there was any justice in the world they'd have all drowned after the first 30 minutes. And by the way the child's name is not TATTY. The 1974 film is so much better - at least they gave the impression that they'd actually been in a boat before...

Not to be missed!
This is a new angle on the original story, but it still works a gentle magic and is very enjoyable for both children and childlike adults alike. The actors are well chosen, particularly the children who are delightful and very convincing in character. To be watched again, at least once a year.
