    Joan the Enigma

    I have her first film appearance in a silent film with Harry Langdon 'Tramp, Tramp,Tramp', she appears a lot plumper in those days. This collection meant that I can see how she progressed through her career and became the star known around the world. Her life story is somewhat weird to say the least, so I was hoping to put flesh on the bones with these films. The quality of these 'old' films is excellent, the acting is very good, the nostalgic interest is a wonder and the plots exceptional. I thoroughly enjoyed all four films, although 'Grand Hotel' is not exactly a Joan Crawford film per se, as so many other stars are included in it.....

    Bargain Box

    This set is excellent value. I am often dubious about "collections" because of the tendency to surround one decent movie with three obscure vehicles. On this set all the films are well worth watching and come from three different periods of Crawford's long career. She was a star who reinvented herself to prolong her popularity and these films show her path clearly. From the ingenue in an all star Grand Hotel, through two film noir classics Mildred Pierce and Possessed, to the horror of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. The recent TV show of Bette and Joan: The Feud may of piqued interest in Joan's films so this would be an ideal introduction to a great star's career.
