A decent camera that could have been better but...
WHY ARE REVIEWS DISAPPEARING for this product?
Positive attributes
The sellers actually give timely and helpful replies to questions.
The camera recordings are clear, bright and the F2 lens gives decent low light catching ability and recording starts as soon as power is applied.
It supports 128 GB memory cards, and the 720 mode is more than sufficient to have a LOT of video stored with VERY good quality!
Now the issues...
Even though my phone says the camera is connected, the "app" continues to go to the WiFi setup on my phone. I have to power it off and reconnect several times to get a connection.
>>UPDATE<<
The "app" has been updated and it connects a bit more easily to my phone.
The directions claim you can connect to the reverse light and use it as a backup camera, NOT! It takes 20 seconds for the camera to power up and start recording AND it does NOT automatically re-connect to my Andriod phone. I figure it would take 1.5 to 2 minutes to actually USE it as a BU cam.
>>UPDATE OFF<<
The supplied cable ties are a nice touch, but they do not stick for long.
A disappointment is the inability to view camera files from my PC running Linux like I can read any other camera or memory card I tried. Being able to copy files directly via USB would be a very useful method. Having to remove the memory card or copy files to my phone is a pain.
The WiFi file transfer to the phone is V-E-R-Y slow, IF you ever get to file listing.
Mounting to the glass directly is a less than wonderful implementation of a car mount. A Gopro or Ram ball swivel mount adapter (see pic) would be a REALLY good idea. As it is, the camera can only rotate up/down NOT left right. Maybe this is the logic for the W-I-D-E field of view???
While viewing recordings on my Android phone You CANNOT hear audio unless you use VLC media player. The standard Android audio codecs do not work.
The viewing angle of the recordings is Waaayyy too wide. I do not know anyone who needs a full horizon view of the road. Details get lost when objects appear so far away.
Voice commands do not work, the take a pic option from the app does work.
If your car USB / cigarette lighter is alive overnight, you REALLY should unplug the camera, it draws over 400 mills (.4 amps) and will drain your battery is left on over a few days.
These app problems make this camera a poor choice, and the mechanical design issues make it worse.
SUMMARY: For use as a dumb appliance even with its limitations it is useful.
