The title could not be more specific about the subject matter.
An interesting history of the motive power of one of the lesser known L M S constituents, (The Glasgow & South Western Railway) certainly if you happen to be English. How many enthusiasts have heard of a Scottish Railway operating a class of locomotives known as "The Austrian Goods" r the Manson 4-6-0's ! It is interesting to look at the motive power of the Caledonian Railway's main competitor for the Glasgow Carlisle traffic, A well researched by author David L Smith, 1976 David & Charles publication. If you are a rail enthusiast try and get a copy for your library.
