Twenty-five years after the initial release of BLADE RUNNER, director Ridley Scott uses archival footage to re-create his original vision for the sci-fi classic. Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, the film is set in Los Angeles in 2019. Earth has become a polluted and miserable dystopia, and many people have fled to live "Off World" on other planets. This dreary vision of the future features replicants: lifelike robots built as slaves for human use. When a replicant escapes his owner, a "blade runner" is called in to hunt him down and kill him. Enter Harrison Ford as the retired blade runner Rick Deckard. He is pulled out of retirement to help catch four escaped replicants: Batty (Rutger Hauer), Leon (Brion James), Pris (Darryl Hannah), and Zhora (Joanna Cassidy.) Despite his distaste for the job, Deckard is soon hot on their heels, tracking them down one by one through the over-crowded, crumbling city streets. In the midst of his hunt, Deckard becomes involved with a beautiful replicant named Rachael (Sean Young). Rachel has fled her owner, and Deckard rightfully should kill her. However, the two fall in love, and after some startling revelations, they are both soon on the run from the very authorities that once employed Deckard. This final cut is a bleaker, more cynical version of an already dark film, which might explain why the studio insisted on a softer, more optimistic ending when it was first released. While some superfans might take issue with some of the revelatory new twists, they will no doubt delight in the quality of the digital restoration. The special effects were already impressive for 1982, but these new touch-ups give them a look that appears just as sharp and imaginative as the sci-fi films of today.Product Identifiers

Blade Runner (Blu ray)
Excellent Blu ray version -- resolution, color, and sound are dramatically improved over the dvd version (like night and day) I bought several years ago, making the movie significantly more engaging and enjoyable. The special features are somewhat thin but still provides interesting comments regarding what went into the making the video. I won't go into reviewing this movie or version beyond what I've written because there's a plethora of reviews online already. All I have to say is if you like the movie and you've never seen it in high definition, then do yourself a favor and purchase this Blu ray version to treat yourself to a fabulous experience of watching one of the best, if not the best, sci-fi film ever produced. Classic for a reason.

It has plot.
I was worried that the film would be another generic sci-fi film ,all special effect and no plot or character development. Boy I was wrong. The movie itself is a noir quest for the definition of life in a dark cyberpunk science fiction environment. My favorite film - a little longer than Director's Cut, but not a big improvement over it.
Blade Runner has been my favorite movie since it first came out. I now have three versions of the film - the original, the Director's Cut and this Final Cut. The Director's Cut was a great improvement over the original, but while this Final Cut may be a little longer than the Director's Cut I didn't see a great deal of improvement. The movie is absolutely amazing for all the right reasons. The characters are great, the premise is great, and the pacing is great. Everything about this movie is engaging, and even leaves a lot of questions unanswered, which for this film isn't a bad thing. I'm more interested in learning more about this movies universe. I don't know how many times I've watched Blade Runner on DVD, (6-7?) but after viewing it on Blu-Ray, I'll never watch it again on regular DVD.
