About this product

Product Information

An affectionate parody that pays homage to the 'Frankenstein' films (from the novel FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley) directed by James Whale in the 1930s, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is both a zany comedy and cinematic tour de force. Written by director Mel Brooks and the star of the film, Gene Wilder, 'Young Frankenstein' has all the usual - and in this case slightly unusual - suspects: the reluctant scientist Frederick Frankenstein, who is actually the grandson of the infamous creature-creator (pronounced Fronken-steen), his spoiled fiancee, Igor the pop-eyed hunchback, his dizzy assistant, the castle's hideous head housekeeper, and, of course, the Monster. And then there are the sets the original ones used in the Whale films the beautiful black-and-white cinematography, and the fine screenplay. Combining noirish elegance with uproarious sight gags and double entendres is a feat Brooks pulls off fabulously, directing the wonderful ensemble to act with sensitivity and humanistic feelings as well as with lunatic abandon. 'Young Frankenstein' is a treat from beginning to end.

Not the first time I've bought from Rarewaves who I've never had any issue with so most likely won't be the last. They often seem to have some great products that are sometimes difficult to obtain elsewhere. They are usually well priced, products as described and in this case brand new and still sealed. First class communication and timely delivery with very secure packaging mean you never have to worry about purchasing with this A+++ Seller.

Young Frankensten: a Classic Film for Monster Film Fans

The film, "Young Frankenstein," is one of the all time classic comedy films, as it is a send-up of the various 1930's monster films, by the fantastic director, Mel Brooks. Based upon the original Frankenstein film genre, Gene Wilder plays the insane scientist, with Marty Feldman as his assistant, Igor (pronounced here as "Eye-gor"). Chaos ensues when the fairly normal Professor Frankenstein return to his ancestral home to find his grandfather's notes and library have remained for him to peruse, and in the process, convince him that he must carry on the work. With supporting performances of Terri Garr, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Gene Hackman, and Kenneth Mars, Brooks has paid a beautiful and insanely funny homage to the great monster films of the 20th century.

  • What hump?

Perhaps one Gene Wilders best movies. Certainly one of Mel Brooks finest directing attributes. Laugh a minute. I believe they used the original Frankenstein set pieces too! Brilliant.

  • Spot-on homage full of laughs

Comedy is just about as subjective as it gets, but I am not alone in finding this a very very funny film. Over the years Mel Brooks has given us some extremely good comedies (as well as the odd turkey). This is one of his best & made with a genuine love of the 1930s Universal movies that inspired it. Technically a beautiful homage as well as heavily loaded with laughs. Marvellous.
