Synopsis
A tragic, spiritual portrait of a perfect English butler and his reaction to his fading insular world in post-war England. A wonderful, wonderful book., BOOKER PRIZE WINNER - From the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, here is "an intricate and dazzling novel" ( The New York Times) about the perfect butler and his fading, insular world in post-World War II England. This is Kazuo Ishiguro's profoundly compelling portrait of a butler named Stevens. Stevens, at the end of three decades of service at Darlington Hall, spending a day on a country drive, embarks as well on a journey through the past in an effort to reassure himself that he has served humanity by serving the "great gentleman," Lord Darlington. But lurking in his memory are doubts about the true nature of Lord Darlington's "greatness," and much graver doubts about the nature of his own life., BOOKER PRIZE WINNER * From the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, here is "an intricate and dazzling novel" ( The New York Times) about the perfect butler and his fading, insular world in post-World War II England. Perfect title

Not for everyone. Spoiler Alert. An intensive study about a very inwardly deficient man who bases his life on pretty much one rule of the “the perfect quality” one should strive for to attain the true and proper way of conducting ones life, sadly excluding all else that may contribute to happiness in his life. Leaving him much hollowness to overcome in the later years of his life.

  • A marvellous master piece!

Ishiguro is one of the finest writers of the century. His mastery of the English life and his mastery over the English language are unparalleled. He has a poetic approach to things even when writing about the concrete actualities of life.

  • Great price

The books are in great condition for being used. I expected stickers, folded pages, writing, and such, but the books weren’t even really at that level of use. Plus I was able to get 3/4 of the books I was looking for here, so the selection was awesome.

  • Short and Compelling

A very interesting read. What on the surface seems to be a simple story actually touches a lot of life's philosophical issues.
