Excellent Action Scenes!!!
The battle rages on as superstar Sylvester Stallone detonates the third and most explosive in the action-packed Rambo trilogy. Combat has taken its toll on John Rambo (Stallone), but he has finally begun to find inner peace inside a monastery - until his friend and mentor Col. Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna) shows up to ask for his help on a top-secret mission to Afghanistan. A war-weary Rambo declines, but when Trautman is captured, Rambo erupts into a one-man firestorm to rescue his former commanding officer and decimate the enemy. In dedication to...
This story is along the formula of "Rambo 2" but is set in Afghanistan some time later. I can't remember if Mr Stallone's wardrobe changes - probably not but poor Richard Crenna still doesn't get to wear anything better than army costume! The crazyman is free, not so crazy and has found his vocation in life - living in Southeast Asia as a well-oiled, muscle-flexing, baton bumping, ring wrestler - a sort of semi-nude raging Morris dancer gone bad. His ex-boss, Colonel Trout, visits him at the busy fight club implausibly wearing full uniform (as usual) and offers our hero a job - which is declined by the macho-man. Eventually, Mr Rambo does take on the job (surprise, surprise) and he goes off to the 'Stan. Whilst playing with a dead sheep and some locals, they are attacked by a Soviet ... Now he's displeased enough to fight! He's got his jumbo knife (again), the bomb shooting "Ram Bo-Bow" (again) and he's too tough/dumb to be harmed by bullets and bombs (again). He rescues the boss who'd been captured, tortured and, worse, the colonel is desperately short of aiguilettes, badges and medal ribbons; he's now reduced to wearing only an unbadged army tee-shirt, dusty camo strides and unpolished boots! It wouldn't be a Rambo film without Jonathon Julian single-handedly wasting a multitude of poorly trained bad guys (again) supplied by USSR's "Falling Plates" regiment (again). Admittedly, this film was far too moronic to hold my attention for longer than a few minutes at a time so I may have missed/forgotten parts (hopefully). I liked the scene when HUNDREDS of horse-mounted mujahadeen assault the Soviets - well researched, is that! A truly absurd film; a real pity after the likes of "First Blood" and the early "Rocky"s. Look and laugh (or cringe) at to whom the film's dedicated - it's certainly not the Soviets or the Afghan government/forces! If you watch this as a squaddie drinking game, just remember one thing - get a very good supply of beer! But you'll be under the table WELL before the end of the film...

Jonathon Julian goes to the 'Stan to help Osama Bin Laden's pals. Look out for the tribute to them in the end credits - OOOPS!!! (They've surely changed that in the post 9/11 versions) If you're a normal person, don't watch this film if there are any sharp implements or medicines near to you: I'm sure that this film is testing even for those who love machismo, Chippendales and well-oiled, bare-chested, muscular blokes! But if your knuckles drag behind you when you walk down the street, you'll just LOVE this film... This film is simply a cash-in on the success of previous "Johnny J" films and the public craving (at the time) for anything like Vietnam War films. When you bear in mind that Sylvester Stallone had a large part in the making of "First Blood" and the initial "Rocky" films, you ... Jonathon Julian goes to the 'Stan to help Osama Bin Laden's pals. I love the rambo series. not for clever scripting or superb deliverance....but because it is loaded to the brim with AWSOMENESS!!!!!! this one has far more explosions than the last one. But also you can feel for rambo's character, there's always a human element too. Just put your critical judgement and pretence behind and prepare for a fun, action packed, bodybag filling, explosive adventure that demands AWSOMENESS!!!!
