I didn't understand it at first. It was explained in the book. The lighthouse was called Janus ie. looking two ways at the same time.

I saw the film on late night TV and was enthralled by it. I made a note of the author of the book it was based on , looked it up on my computer and there it was. It was a lot cheaper than the original price and free delivery too. A very good bargain.

  • Most critical review

Not really the main subject matter of the book

A good read but very sad. Also I didn't actually like any of the characters so I couldn't really care about what happened to them. However it did keep my interest and at times was something of a page turner. The book reviews printed on the cover to some extent are spoilers. I had read quite a few chapters and happened to glance at them There had been no indication up to that point that it was going to be a sad book - and now I have spoiled it for everyone else. Sorry!

  • Great read.

I am very pleased with this book. Saw the film a few years ago and as usual the book goes into a lot more detail. Gripping story.

  • Great characterisation and a compelling plot.

A lovely book, which I read after seeing the movie version. With hindsight, I found the film had done full justice to the book, which added to my appreciation of the characterisation. Thoroughly recommended to anyone who likes a fine read.
