Not as engaging as series 2.
If I hadn't seen series 2 before series 1, I probably would have enjoyed it more. Bit weak compared to series 2.

OK .................. you've probably seen this series already on TV, but it's so much better on DVD without all the advert breaks! What you get is two DVDs with three episodes on each, plus a 'behind The Scenes' documentary (something I've yet to watch myself ............... (TIME!) and that's it. No other extras, such as interviews, scene changes that you often get on other DVD's, but who watches them anyway? Picked this one up quite cheap here on Ebay .............. well worth it, but hold out for the best price you can, though make sure you get an un-scratched copy and that it is well packed before being sent. Other than that, there's little else to say. If you like Stephen Fry (and what's not to like) and you fancy something easy and entertaining to watch ................ GO for ... VERY GENTLE BUT AMUSING SERIES. STEPHEN FRY IS EXCELLENT AS IS EVERYONE ELSE. I LOVE THE UNDRAMATIC WAY THE DRAMATIC HAPPENS AND QUICKLY BECAME QUITE FOND OF ALL THE CHARICTERS. IT MAKES A PLEASANT CHANGE FOR THERE TO BE AN ADULT SERIES WITHOUT TOO MANY "ADULT" SCENES. NO SEX, NO DRUGS, NO VIOLENCE BUT CERTAINLY NOT DULL. pleasant enough watch
Having watched series 2 I was a little disappointed in watching series 1 again. The stories (writing) , the characters and especially the direction were far stronger in series 2. This is an o.k. watch. Nothing more. Stephen Fry and some of the other main actors seem to be just getting into their stride towards the end of this series.
