Another Excellent Album
One previous reviewer stated that he would be hard pressed to remember the names of even half a dozen of The Coral's songs from previous albums. That isn't any reflection on The Coral and is obviously quite simply a case of that particular individual not spending enough time getting to know the albums. The Coral have never produced anything less than pure brilliance and 'Roots & Echoes' certainly doesn't deviate from that run of great records. Each record The Coral have made sounds completely different to the previous, really no song from this album sounds like anything from any of the others. This is another fantastic release from the Hoylake lads. The musicianship, as always is superb with each member showing continuing mastery on their respective instruments. One of my favourite ... One of my favourite aspects of The Coral's music has always been the melodies, they have a knack of writing tunes that seem to lodge themselves in your brain as 'Roots & Echoes' once again proves. After a few listens to the album as a whole you'll find you won't be able to resist humming along to the likes of "She's Got A Reason", "Jacqueline" and "Remember Me" to name but a few. A previous reviewer stated that he thinks The Coral have maybe taken their type of music as far as it can go. My question is "what is their 'type' of music?" The answer is that they don't have a specific 'type'! How can anyone think "Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker" for example, remotley resembles anything else they have done? The Coral have evolved as time has gone on and they will continue to do so. They are definitely in no danger of becoming boring, I disagree with a couple of other reviewers on here who fear that we may see another album of similar stuff to this with their next release. I would put money on the next album being, once again completely different sounding to this one. The Coral are one of only a handful of modern bands that will be in it for the long haul, and I can safely expect them to still be around in many years to come, making great music. I had been eagerly awaiting this album for over two years and I can conclude that I am definitely not disappointed, quite the opposite in fact. The Coral have done it once again, and proved beyond any doubt that they are easily one of the most talented British bands of recent years. Its just a shame that they don't recieve as much recognition as they should, while less talented bands like, as another reviewer mentioned, Keane, Kasabian and Coldplay, who really don't have even a quarter of The Coral's talent, soak up the media hype. The album is another triumph and there literally isn't a weak song or filler on here. If I had to pick my favourites so far i'd say the individual standout tracks for me are "Put The Sun Back", "Rebecca You" and "She's Got A Reason" 5 Stars.
