Fun Saturday afternoon family adventure movie
Suprisingly enough, this is a very enjoyable fantasy action adventure. I think kids will like the larger-than-life characters and 'terible' monsters (there's nothing scary here though really). For the Seventies, there's some pretty good 'Stop-Animation' (I think they call it) of monsters. It runs on a very basic and familiar storyline: Some terrible calamity has occured and it can only be put right by the hero (and his companions) setting out on a dangerous quest, overcoming various fantastic creatures and travelling to amazing locations. Think Lord of the Rings; and really just about every fairytale you've ever seen or heard. No stunning surprises or twists, just over-the-tope heroes and pantomime type villainy. TRIVIA 1: this stars the daughter of Tyrone Power and the son of John ... Suprisingly enough, this is a very enjoyable fantasy action adventure.
