A David Lean film not to be missed.
One of David Lean's best films in my opinion. Superb photography, good script and a great performance from Judy Davis, supported by a very good cast. Although I saw this film a long time ago, I have not yet viewed the purchased film.

As a boy of 5 or 6, I was sent to the Kindergarden, which belongs to Eikando Temple in Kyoto. The Important Teaching was Ji-Hi, which means Love the Sadness, which was being translated from Sanskrit word Maitri. Buddha was born some 500 years before Christus. In any case, the story of Buddha one sees in the numerous wall paintings of Samcapala Jataka, the story of Buddha is so similar to that of warm hearted samalit, in the Lukas of Bible. Passage to India DVD
The characters are engaging & believable. The story is intriguing with several twists & with it set mostly in India, I felt (due to the extreme heat) gives it that much more tension. The film also shows the general attitudes at the time towards race. It also gives an insight into the British Raj & the tensions that were growing around that. The film gets my recommendation.
