People had a tuff time repairing garden hoses with these, but they are so much better than the plastic or brass ones of today. First off, wrap the hose end in adhesive-caulk or some sort of glue, slide the hose on--making sure the end is evenly cut. Use water-pump pliers to slowly go around the silver crimps, bending them a little at a time. I go around at least twice-makes a great seal. Never have had a leak-except when I tried using a hammer to bend the crimps--made a mess there... now days they are very hard to find...get as many as you can find...I've had hoses last 30+years...had to replace this type of connection only one or twice per hose.
