Better Than The Smiths
I remember when this album first came out, and just how much i loved it. I said at the time The Smiths would in 20 years time be regarded in the smae way The Beatles are, because of Morrissey, BUT as debut LP's go, The Smiths was patchy. Lloyd Cole & The Commotions on the other hand, delivered a stunning masterpiece, which is surely a contender for one of the best debuts ever. Not only that, but how ahead of their time were they? The 'country' influence, that these days is considered to be 'cool' with a lot of 'Alt-Country' artists being praised bu the music press. Chock full of fantasitic pop songs, and this version has a bonus disc, with live, sessions, and b sides and the odd rare demo. Still sounds fresh and hasn't dated at all (80's records often have that awful 80's sheen on them). ... I remember when this album first came out, and just how much i loved it.
