Let me start with this: It is a 3-rd series tripod so, do not expect it is very light and compact. It is relatively liightweight and compact in the same time it is very stable and solid. Its locks are not 'non-rotatable', they are stiffer than the newer ones. When you release the lock the released section of the leg starts behaving like an air pump of a bike somehow. You should tighten the locks with an essential effort, especially the larger legs' locks. You will notice this if you had a chance to work with the latest generation of the Gitzo GT- tripods.. Now about the positive aspects of this tripod. It is solid, durable and reliable - it is the tripod! I used to work with Manfrotto' aluminum tripods for years. They are quite well made and solid as well however, when you start using Gitzo' carbon fiber tripods you certainly, would not go back.. It is just another dimension. However, if you can afford GT3...- series tripod you'd better go for it. If not - you, certainly go for G13.. - ones. And my last advice is - don't buy the a 4- or more section tripods since they are not as stable as the 3- section ones.Read full review

People complain about the leg system on the older gitzos but I prefer them to the clamps that always catch my fingers on most other tripods. The mountaineer is solid and built like a tank but still not too heavy.

It was purchased as a Christmas gift. It is like new, very light weight and works properly. I anticipate it lasting as long as I do
