Very nicely made, works smoothly with no slop or backlash, typical generic design. The engraved scale can be a little hard to read in some light conditions, but no worse than most. Excellent value, no feeling that if you'd spent more you'd have got better! I checked mine against some Engineer's Standards, and the overall readings were accurate to .05mm over 125mm, and no individual reading was more than 0.1mm out, always under-reading. I've been using gauges of this type for nearly 50 years for DIY and semi-pro woodwork, metalwork and architectural model-making, and when I started there were two choices: cheap stamped-out mild-steel, or very expensive engineer's calipers. They were true vernier types (read by counting over-lap on fixed and sliding scales) and tended to get used more for comparison than precision measurement. This tool is a good example of how things have changed, in real terms it's cheaper than the old stamped rusty steel type, and in performance and fit and finish comes close to the expensive precison type at a fraction of the cost. The potential weak spot on all these is the dial gauge, but used carefully it will give years of service. I had one very similar to this for approaching fifteen years, which of course got dropped a few times, and eventually the little cogs no longer meshed - that's why I bought this. The old one had scales that were a little easier to read in poor light, but then it cost £12 15 years ago.Read full review

For the price I doubt you will find better, far more accurate than the previous digital vernier calliper I owned, with the added bonus of not having to purchase Batteries, plus are extremely easy to read unlike the mechanical type without a dial.

As a replacement for my digital calipers the proops bros analogue set is ideal .Nice and tight movement holding where the pressure is let off gives accurate readings every time .The high contrast dial scale making it easy to read though the rule markings could have done with being etched a tad deeper .Priced at the same level as the cheap digital versions , the analogue model does not suffer from any movement in the repetative measuring readings found on the digital ones giving the correct reading every time .

I have found this an accurate (tested against other instruments) and convenient tool - and very easy to read. No horrid batteries to go flat and a clear scale without ambiguity in imperfect light. Old school is sometimes best, especially when achieved at this price. Durability OK so far, but it is early days.
