  • Not the best of Caravan’s releases but well-worth your investigation.

    “Blind Dog at St. Dunstans” was released in 1976 and was Caravan’s 7th album. It was a slight shift in direction for the band as new keyboard man Jan Schelhaas brought a different style of playing which meant there would no longer be the lengthy instrumentals that generally dominated one side of each long-player. That said it’s still very much a good album with much to admire. “Here Am I”, “Chiefs and Indians” and “A Very Smelly, Grubby Little Oik” are the first 3 tracks on the album and all have that well-known Caravan trait of being well-performed with witty lyrics. The opener is particularly enjoyable with Geoffrey Richardson’s all too brief viola solo a high point. The latter kicks off four tracks which all segue together in familiar Caravan style with “Bobbing Wide” being a short ...
