Mickey Gordon is a professional basketball referee who flies to Paris to bury his father but is detained because his father's casket is missing. Ellen Andrews, an employee of American Airlines, assists Mickey in retrieving the lost casket. She attends the funeral and they fall in love in the streets of Paris, but are separated when Mickey has to go back to America after his leave of absence. They return to the reality of their normal lives, but cannot seem to forget Paris. Mickey and Ellen ultimately reunite and marry, but do not "live happily ever after" (at least, not immediately). They deal with common marriage issues such as: her father moving in with them, failed attempts at child conception, and each spouse unsuccessfully attempting a professional change to accommodate the other. The film is told mostly in flashback by friends of the couple who gather at a restaurant. It delves into the hardships of marriage and keeping the romance alive in a relationship.Read full review
This is a very good plot where Billy Crystal plays a NBA Coach who promises to deliver his father's corpse to Paris to be burried with his friends. Enroute to Paris, the Airlines misplace his father. He is stranded at the airport for a few days. A woman representative (Debra Winger) truly understands him and they pay for his flight, hotel, etc. He was planning on heading back home when he stopped to ask her if the tickets must be used today as he never did get a chance to see Paris. She shows him around and they fall closer in love with each other. The story is also being told by four friends enjoying dinner together. Really Funny. Especially when Debra Winger feels sorry for the Pigeon and rushes it to an animal hospital. you'll have to get the movie to learn the rest.
One of my favorite movies - directed by Billy Crystal and even though he is corny at times - he still has a witty sense of humor. Love the other actors in it too - Debra Winger, Joe Mantegna, Cynthia Stevenson, Richard Masur, Julie Kavner, Robert Costanzo, John Spencer, Cathy Moriarty, William Hickey, Clint Howard, and lots of famous athletes - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Isiah Thomas, Spud Webb, David Robinson to name a few - a definite must see! A chick flick but with Billy Crystal playing a basketball ref - it has some appeal in the movie for men too :)
I've always loved this movie and have been trying to track it down. Was very pleased to get it at such an awesome price and in perfectly new condition.

Great all-around movie. One that you will notice funny things each time you watch it. Billy Crystal is great. The scenes of Paris are so romantic. Not much profanity, no nudity, but lots of romance. It's funny enough to have your husband watch it and not feel like he's watching a "chick flick". Also, if you like Gershwin music, you will love the score. The theme song is "Our Love Is Here To Stay".
