Good alternative to 1150 4770 or 4790 (non K)
I upgraded to an Intel based rig from an AM3+ AMD 8350. This CPU is directly comparable in performance to the 4770 or 4790 i7 CPU. It does not have unlocked features like a K model chip. It does not have the integrated GPU. I used this CPU as an alternative to a 4770 or 4790 because they were considerably cheaper than those chips on Ebay used and its the exact same CPU minus the integrated GPU. As far as performance, it is obviously good. Although coming from an aging 8350 I expected a little more. I used this CPU in a gaming rig with a Radeon 390 and 32GB RAM. I did get SOME overclock out of the chip through BCLK but not much. 103.8Mhz got me to around 3.64Ghz and 4.05Ghz on the turbo cores all stock voltages. Not much and I knew I wasn't going to get much but its a nice free bump! I don't know if its a Haswell thing or what, but I used the same cooler (H100i) that was on my OC AMD 8350 (4.6Ghz) and temps are almost the same or the Xeon may be a little hotter under full load. I used Tuniq TX4 paste with the H100. Overall I am happy, its a good CPU and will last me till I can upgrade to a DDR4 based rig.
