The usual excellent service from Baham Books. Item dispatched quickly and arrived shortly afterwards. The book condition was slightly off , the cover being quite grubby in the area where the price sticker once was . I docked a star as I felt it was good condition rather than the described ‘ very good’ . It’s rare this happens so it would stop me from highly recommending the seller.

  • Compelling stories of Comets, Vulcans, Lightnings and VC-10s

James Hamilton-Paterson is a fine writer with an eye for what interests the reader. Empire of the Clouds is a well written history of those days between the end of WW2 and the 1960s when British aircraft design led the world. The compelling stories of Comets, Vulcans, Lightnings and VC-10s are all in here, written with the enthusiasm of the boy plane spotter that Hamilton-Paterson used to be.

  • bring back the engineers!

I was bought a copy of this book as a Christmas Present and found the content fascinating: the ability in our aeronautics industry was amazing and quite uplifting to read about. This contrasted markedly with all the lost opportunity and bureaucratic bungling by both governement and management. Quite sad really.I was left with the feeling that we had a golden era that could have been made more of by the powers that be. I've since bought a copy for someone else whose father began his career as an aeronautical engineer and worked on Concorde. A fascinating read even if you're not an aircraft buff.

  • Well worth reading if you have an interest in aviation history

    Well worth the money
