The Sweeney
The 3 episodes on this DVD are a classic example of how drama used to be made before the PC brigade took a hold over writers and producers. They were not only ground breaking in terms of inspiring similar drama such as "The Professionals", they set the standard by which all previous drama and subsequent drama can be measured. We are unlikely to ever see the likes of this gritty and realistic drama again because no-one has the guts to try to do it anymore. Just look at how bad the recent screening of the new "Professionals" was on Sky TV. The Bill, as good as it is will never get near to "The Sweeney" and so we should sit back and enjoy what was, in my opinion, the very best cop drama ever made.The 3 episodes on this DVD are a classic example of how drama used to be made before the PC brigade took a hold over writers and producers. The Sweeney
I love the Sweeney. It was a brilliant tough drama series - John Thaw and Dennis Waterman were exceptional as tough guys but also a lot of humour was involved. The signuature music to the series on TV brought hairs to the back of my neck - you just knew it was going to be a great 1 hour watch. This DVD covered some of the episodes from that era ie the 70's and its brilliant for me knowing that I can watch it any time as it no longer available to watch on TV. To sum up out of all the cop dramas that have graced our TVs since there has been nothing to match it and it was brilliant to find this DVD amongst all the others on Ebay.I love the Sweeney.
