History like so many things can turn on small decision. Dominion is set against the backdrop of a Britain suffering under totalitarian oppression having signed a peace treaty with Germany in 1940 after the British army being smashed during the battle for France. This book is a story of fighting back against oppression but the writer has brilliantly shown not just one side of the story but all sides showing that everyone is human in reality. I had never read Dominion before. I always wanted to but had been put off by bad reviews but on a whim I decided to buy it have not been disappointed. The writing is pure genius and is not biased to one side or another. I like in particular the details that are put in to cement it as a different 1950s to the one we know about today. If anyone loves alternate history books with a human story behind them or just loves the work of CJ Sansom in particular then I would advise them to buy this as it is well worth the cost and is a book that I have found it difficult to put down already having read 410 pages in the space of about four days.Read full review

C J Sansom writes a brilliant book on the possible outcome of what may have happened if the powers that be had not had Churchill standing up for Britain. This tale is one that should be read, particularly when there appear appears to be an uprising of the far-right and Nationalism.

Solid storyline, set in believable 1950's - with Germany having won the 1939 War - UK having capitulated in 1940. Good background of UK fascist collaboration, with resistance operation fronted by Winston Churchill. Good page-turner - my first C J Sansom novel - left me determined to search out his earlier writings! Happy to recommend this well researched and thought provoking book - A thoroughly good read!
