"All the elements that later made Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers one of America’s most agreeable and enduring music institutions were clear and present on the band’s self-titled debut.", 5 out of 5 - "...Innocently infusing Southern psychedelia with a shot of poppy, punkish energy, Petty's debut was one of the 1976/7's ubiquitous LPs...", 3 Stars-Good-"...Two Stand-Outs ("Breakdown" & "American Girl") ..."

  • A fresh, vibrant and timeless classic

This is the 1976 debut album by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. I bought it on LP vinyl format at that time but have not had a copy of the album for at least 30 years. Listening to the album again was like a welcome meeting with an old friend. It sounds as fresh, vibrant, and exciting as it did in 1976: a timeless classic.

  • Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

The first album by Tom Petty is raw and energetic with some brilliant songs from the master songwriter, one of the greatest America has produced. In particular American Girl is an all time classic. It is worth the album just for this track alone, however the other nine are pretty good too.
