      A thrilling read sumptuously illustrated.

      I bought this book because I was interested to see Margaret Mee’s colour plates of her orchids and bromeliads but her descriptions of her collecting expeditions take you directly into Amazonas and you’re practically swatting away the insects, tripping over the roots, being washed over the rapids or cheering her along in her various adventures. It certainly took me back to the time when I was there. And I didn’t realise at the time that the school I’d taught in São Paulo was the same one where she had been the art teacher.
