I haven't gotten to take a lot of shots with it yet but everything is clear, sharp and has good bokeh. Colors are exactly what you are looking at. Taking it on a blacklight shoot in a couple of days. It is very light and super fast focusing. Yes it is plastic but if you take good care of your equipment that shouldn't be a problem. Great value for the money in my book.

Pentax has basically two lines of lenses, a professional DA* series, and the DA series aimed at more casual users. This 50mm DA lens falls in the second category. But in my opinion, all but the most demanding users will be happy with the Pentax 50mm DA lens on autofocus cameras. True, this lens is made mostly of plastic, but the fit and finish look professional. The lens is half the weight of the professional DA* version. There is no f-stop ring, but on Pentax cameras you can of course adjust the f-stops in manual and aperture-priority modes. The lens is plenty sharp and bright for casual use. Since on an APC-size camera, the equivalent focal length is 75mm, you might even use this lens for portraits. My copy has very little vignetting, and sharpness doesn't fall off much at the corners from f/2.8 and smaller. I did not notice much in the way of aberrations either. Possibly the camera body I use this lens with (Pentax K-01) corrects for aberrations in-body. With the K-01, I leave the "limited" lenses at home, and use this light-weight little gem instead! Try it, you just might like it!Read full review
It's not a lens that shows off in terms of impressive appearance, construction and specification on paper. However, the pictures it delivers are really very good for amateurs expectations. And it's tiny and lightweight, so a joy to use and easy to carry around. I can only recommend DA50/1.8. Go and get one for you!

After having built up enough confidence in my photography, I decided to delve into potrait photography. I use this lens for that purpose mostly. The images are extremely sharp & impressive expecially the ones taken @ night. The details in the close ups really stand out. I'm kicking myself for not having gotten it sooner. This is a must have for anyone serious about photography both professionally & as a hobby. Get it, you won't be disappointed.
This is a lens made of good plastic. Very sharp and durable. If you consider the price, it is outstanding.
