About this product

Product Information

Award-winning documentary-maker and historian Laurence Rees brings us a gripping new history of World War II. From the dramatic and secret deals that helped make the war possible, to some of the most crucial decisions taken during the conflict, World War II- Behind Closed Doors is full of surprises, even for those who think they know the history. rawing on material only available since the opening of archives in the East, Rees re-examines the key decisions made by Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt during the war. And as the truth about Stalin s earlier friendly relationship with the Nazis is laid bare, a devastating and surprising picture of the Soviet leader emerges one that is deeply embarrassing for many Russians. he emotional core of the book is the amazing new testimony obtained from nearly a hundred separate witnesses from the period. Former Soviet secret policemen talk frankly for the first time about their repressive work; Allied seamen reveal how they braved the Arctic convoys; and Red Army veterans talk of how they killed Germans in hand-to-hand fighting on the Eastern Front. The enthralling narrative is a mix of high politics including the inside story of the Allies

My order arrived quickly and was nicely packaged but due to what I am sure must have been a clerical error the wrong copy of the book was sent. However, the seller rectified this promptly by actioning a refund. No harm done.

  • A great eye opener for anyone interested in what happened in Poland WW11

I did not watch this series when it was on TV, but as the years have gone past and the fact that my dear father was Polish, I knew he had been sent from Poland the the labor camps in Kazakhstan in 1940, and the information that I had already found I wanted to know more about what happened at that time, first I got the book and read about it then bought the DVD there were one or two slight changes to the DVD but that I can understand because of the age group that it was for . This must have been a terrible time for the Poles, and how Europe and America let them down. How Stalin pulled the wool over their eyes, I wish this Country would be honest about what happened, instead of trying to cover it up !
