Notes
2010 album from the veteran rockers, their first album in eight years. The first thing that hits you about Mojo is that this is the sound of a band playing together in a room - not a studio - facing each other, all singing and playing at the same time. The music is alive, with no overdubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what they created on the spot at that time. Tom Petty says, "With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band. Mojo is where the band lives when it's playing for itself." As for the songs, Mojo showcases a wide variety of American music from Rock 'n' Roll to Country and both electric and acoustic Blues. Mojo has juice and guts but it also has some sweet balladry for the slow dancers and even a wacked-out Reggae number that is unlike anything that Heartbreakers have done before. It's the kind of album nobody's supposed to be able to make anymore. It got here just in time.

    A blues rock masterpiece.

I love this record for all the reasons that we always love Heartbreakers records: great songs, played really well and sung with a lot of heart. Mojo is a great showcase for Mike Campbell in particular, as he gets to stretch out a bit more. It's all here, and reminds us again why this was the best rock band in America.

  • One of a Kind.

This is not full of radio-friendly hits. If thats what you want try Green Day or Shinedown. However it has some excellent music on this cd. Some like Mudcrutch and some just plain from out of the blue. The first song has this annoying repetitive group of notes that dominate the song and overpower the vocals. The second song is strange. Its like progrock (from Tom Petty - who woulda thunkit?) Thank God there isn't anything as bad as "Orphan of the Storm". OK that ends anything negative i'm going to say because the whole cd is awesome. I heard all the songs were live first takes. I heard it compared to this or compared to that. Take it as it is and make up your own mind. I think its a lot better than all the crap that gets played on the radio.

  • Bluesy Heartbreakers

Blues by the Heartbreakers ? It works for me but I don't think it's this band's strength. There are still some great moments. "Running Man's Bible", "Candy", No Reason to Cry", "U.S. 41", "High in the Morning" are just that. For me, "I Should Have Known It" is the stand out track. As far as I'm concerned this is a great band no matter what style they choose to play !

  • Mojo, Fits it, for it has a different style Which is great

It is kinda like a Bob Dylan style ,but with the tom Petty an the Heartbreaks own style, Good music when you listen to it a few times ,I have just about all his albums, , Just about ALL Of them , :-)

  • Petty's best

As a decades long fan I highly recommend. Possibly his masterpiece, as strong as wildflowers, not all rockers like "Long after day", "You're gonna get it", but has plenty. Doesn't get all weepy like Echo or Country rock like his Mudcrutch albums either. Simply one of the best albums of the decade. Buy it, listen to it 3 times, it will stay in your head like all of Petty's best work.
