If you want the baritone exquisiteness of Scott..leave this review now. As wonderful as he was as a Balladeer this album along with a few other later ( in his life) offerings could not be further from that style. You got hints of where he was heading with his interest in European writer’s material. This album encapsulates the starkness and edginess that was to become his muse. At times tuneless or rhythmless with harsh angular sounds carrying Scott’s vocals... more like an instrument than a voice... the album is completely compelling and alluring. Not to be slapped on the turntable at a dinner party, most likely to be enjoyed alone and when you’re in that mood. It oozes class and deserves respect as he certainly was well respected by his peers, influences that can heard in the likes of Bowie’s final offerings et al. This vinyl has been empathically pressed and has worked very well. Along with the cover/ sleeve it rightly deserves to sit in anyone’s record collection... provided you’re brave enough.
