Banjo Man Frank Cassel has been entertaining audiences for many years with engaging, lively and humorous material. As a songwriter and producer he has earned awards in national songwriting contests and from the Montgomery County, MD Council of the Arts and Humanities. This project, American Acoustic, signals a return to writing and performing for general audiences, after his last recording of mostly traditional songs for young folks and lovers of traditional banjo music. He uses a variety of styles to show off his lyrics and versatility on the banjo and guitar. He includes some of the best musicians he could find to express his concepts, including bluegrass artist Dede Wyland, who was a key member of Skyline with Tony Trishka. Tony was at one time Bela Fleck's banjo teacher. Mike Auldridge plays on a track. He toured recently with Emmy Lou Harris and Lyle Lovett, and was a founding member of the Seldom Scene. We did not know when he played his part in the studio that it would be one of his last recordings, if not the last. We miss him very much. There are some fine young players coming up these days. Zoe Kurtz grew up attending Frank's shows as a toddler, and now is a fine violinist. She recorded 'Minuet in G' with Frank when she was seventeen. Shannon B is named for Frank's fiddler friend, Shannon Bielski, who recently won a full scholarship to East Tennessee State University to study bluegrass. Dede Wyland and Gantt Kushner produced this project. 'American Acoustic' is a solo project, but is notable for the many very talented artists that contributed to make it a very fun listening adventure.
