About this product

Product Information

Tired of Waiting for a Match-Made-in-Heaven, She'll Settle for One Made in Texas Whether it's riding bikes, catching snakes, or sliding down banisters, Essie Spreckelmeyer just can't quite make herself into the ideal woman her hometown--and her mother--expect her to be. It's going to take an extraordinary man to appreciate her joy and spontaneity--or so says her doting oil-man father. Unfortunately such a man doesn't appear to reside in Corsicana, Texas. It's 1894, the year of Essie's thirtieth birthday, and she decides the Lord has more important things to do than provide her a husband. If she wants one, she needs to catch him herself. So, she writes down the names of all the eligible bachelors in her small Texas town, makes a list of their attributes and drawbacks, closes her eyes, twirls her finger, and ... picks one.But convincing the lucky "husband-to-be" is going to a bit more of a problem.Join Deeanne Gist for another unforgettable tale and find out whether Essie's plan to catch a husband succeeds or if she's just Courting Trouble.

This book is REAL and this author is spectacular. What a message this book carries - for young and old alike. God is always there ready to forgive and walk through the good times and the bad with us. Sometimes in Christian fiction, we see some "goody two shoes" type folks but... the characters in this book are "human" imperfect people. The history, the story line, the families, the community - all comes together to make this book one of the BEST of Deeanne Gist's writing. HOWEVER... just wait until you read the sequel to this one - Deep In The Heart of Trouble. WHAT a set of books. These are a MUST HAVE if you enjoy intelligently written Christian Western Romance. • Courting Trouble

This author is a wonderful writer. Very engaging, intelligent stories, well-researched and presented history, down to earth characters. This book is enjoyable reading; however, it is the most erotic Christian book I've ever read. For that reason, I would STRONGLY caution the reader. This book is NOT for young readers. Well written? Absolutely. But for those who read Christian books assuming they'll be "appropriate"...this book goes over the line. My lower score is based entirely on that. If I wanted to read erotic books, I could go to any bookstore and pick one up off the shelf. Frankly, I'd pay a lot less. I choose Christian books out of conviction, and in my opinion, this author, in the name of being "cutting edge", took it over the line. ...

  • Courting Trouble is a great read!

This book had fun twists and turns, with relevant Biblical lessons as well. The author does not gloss over sin and the real mistakes that people make. She weaves together the spiritual maturity of a young woman with adventure and romance. The secondary characters in the book are well developed.

  • Courting Trouble by Deeanne Gist

Very enjoyable reading. I like Christian Historical fiction and this book filled that. The book was in excellant condition. Very good author.
