    Women sold into marriage in China circa 1920

    Awesome movie from China. I saw it at the Telluride Film Festival in 1991 and now I use it in my college film studies class. And the color is gorgeous!

    Zhang Yimou's 1991 Masterpiece Looks Great in 2007 MGM World Films DVD Edition

    An outstanding DVD copy of a magnificent film. This is the 2007 MGM World Films DVD, which is a high-quality transfer that does great justice to the beautiful cinematography and production design. Beware inferior copies out there -- until such boutique labels as Criterion, Kino, or Eureka! put out this brilliant Zhang Yimou film, the 2007 MGM DVD is the best source available to us.
