  • A Great Dover Publications Offering

If you are looking for a reference book outlining Tibetan iconography or historical context, this is not for you. In fact, this book only presents reproductions of woodblock prints with a simple title ... no other text. But if you are looking for larger-format examples of some of the more typical thangka drawings, then this is a great book to own. Typical of primitive style woodblock printing, some of the lines in the drawings are broken or slightly confused by the wood-grain in the block. But the larger-format prints are excellent for anyone who wishes to use them to study the proportions that are so important to Tibetan iconography, or even to use as a starting point for anyone wishing to paint their own thangka.
