Designed for users of advanced Nikon SLRs and Nikon digital SLRs, the SB-80DX inherits all of the functions of the SB-28/28DX and adds some exciting innovations. The SB-80DX provides compatibility with D-TTL and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash control, and offers features such as a tilt-rotate flash head, a built-in wide flash adapter for 14mm wide-angle lens coverage, GN 38/125 (ISO 100, m/ft. at 35mm), flash coverage up to 105mm in 5mm zoom steps and an AF-Assist Illuminator. In addition, the SB-80DX enables modeling flash and wireless slave flash, and a new dedicated soft dome has been provided to create soft lighting. The Nikon SB-80DX offers photographers enhanced flash shooting flexibility for a wide range of applications.

    Does what it needs to.

    I go through at least one of these units a month - due to me dropping them frequently from the tops of doors while shooting real-estate, and they do the job perfectly. the optical slave works in other rooms, and the light is consistent. With care, and moderate use they will last for years and year.

    Good flash with some limitations.

    Powerful,quick recycling,well made flash unit. TTL not required as is used with older lenses. Viewfinder ready light not available with some cameras, a strange omission I think Nikon could have avoided,(Metz manage, why not the original?).

    Solid flash system

    Nikon have again made a flash that quietly does the job without fuss. Easy to use buttons. Large LCD screen. Flash power good at all settings. On or off the Camera it’s good. A flash that will last many years.
