In this comedy drama starring Cillian Murphy (28 DAYS LATER) and Colin Farrell (PHONE BOOTH) a series of coincidences and haphazard relationships unite a small group of people living in Dublin. The result is an alternately depressing and humorous sideways glance at the way that people make their life decisions, seen through a group of duplicitous characters each of whom has a stubborn, selfish side and a soft, vulnerable side. With plenty of off-kilter jokes running the gamut from impotence and adultery to pissing and puking, INTERMISSION delivers its crowing potshot to female moustaches--quaintly nicknamed "tash" here. Sally (Shirley Henderson) is the downtrodden young woman with the "tash," and is also the sister of Deirdre (Kelly Macdonald) who is on the rebound after a hard breakup. Her ex-boyfriend John (Murphy) works as a clerk at a department store. His colleague Oscar (David Wilmot) is an impotent shy lad who finally finds a solution with Noeleen (Deirdre O'Kane), an older woman whose husband has just left her for the much-younger Deirdre. Meanwhile the overzealous copper Jerry (Colm Meany) is busy chasing after harmless criminal Lehiff (Colin Farrell). When a shocking bus accident occurs, the characters are brought together and forced to face the reality of their tangled lives.

    Once Upon a Time in Dublin....

    Both comic & tragic consequences ensue as the lives of a dozen assorted characters interweave in this urban Irish drama. The shocking opening sequence sets the tone for this compelling & tangled black comedy. With its converging and crossing storylines the film has strong parallels with Crash (2004). This low budget film is extremely well scripted (peppered with authentic Dublinese), tightly edited and provides loads of laughs & shocks. Intermission boasts an excellent cast - the trio of great Irish actors (Colin Farrell, Cillian Murphy & Colm Meaney) are in top form and have helped to raise the film’s profile. Colin Farrell in particular, is brutally effective and gives an suitably edgy performance, not unlike his recent turn in In Bruges (2008). For me, both interMission and In Bruges ...

    Intermission is a true original, very smartly plotted, uproariously funny, startingly unsettling and unexpectedly moving...Life is what happens in between.

    Great Show

    Intermission is a quintessential Irish film - great characters, hilarious storylines & starring Colm Meaney (usually him & Brendan Gleeson take turns appearing in Irish films). Great performances from Colin Farrell & Cillian Murphy (who does a good northside Dublin accent despite his Cork roots). Overall, fantastic film!
