The Monty Python Megaset is just that, Mega! This long awaited boxed set includes 16 DVD's wholly encompasing their 45 episode television show as well as two Monty Python Live! performances, their 1998 Aspen performance and their 20th anniversary tribute: "Parrot Sketch Not Included". The 16 discs present the television episodes chronologically, allowing the viewer to marvel as the productions progressed from sillyness to outlandishly silly. (I haven't even watched all of 16 discs yet.) As an american, I am mesmerized by the portrayal of British culture and perhaps moreso, the intellectual subtext within the episodes, as these six madmen cavort capriciously through British and European History. The 16-Ton Megaset is also chock-full of bonus features. 'Pythonisms' offers some insight into their slang and offbeat references, 'Gilliams Attic' is a great collection of Terry's animation art galleries, and 'Trivial Quest' offers Monty Python quizzes just for fun. This collection is an absolute must for any Monty Python fan. It's comprehensive and you'll have the 'Parrot Sketch' ever-ready at your fingertips when you want to memorize each line.Read full review
I love Monty Python, all of those wild and crazy guys!! (and yes, that was a quote by Steve Martin, who also happens to be a huge fan). I love them all: John Cleese, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam (that crazy cartoonist!), and finally Graham Chapman (he will be missed). I also LOVE the CD I have called "Monty Python SINGS?!"... it's full of those great old Monty Python tunes such as "The Lumberjack Song" (Tom Hanks' favorite), and my all-time personal favorite "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". I actually bought this 16 Ton mega CD set for my roommate, as she is the one that turned me onto the "Fab Six", and now I am hooked and there is no turning back. My Cellphone even rings to the tune of "Sit on my Face"... ok, maybe that was too much information.
Excellent set full of the sketches that bring surrealistic and absurd thought to everyday life..They poke fun at everything and cause you to ponder the ridiculous way humans behave...The characters are imaginative and silly. You laugh and enjoy....Somehow reality TV and computer games replaced critical provocative entertainment...Back when people could laugh at themselves and intelligence was not thought of as an elitist disease, stupidity and pompousness were seen as pathetic and ridiculed. Now the cults of celebrity and power and money have reduced the daily reality to actual total sham. Not so funny as lives are at stake.

One of the funniest comedy groups of all time! DVD’s in tremendous shape. It is good to laugh again at the same skits that made me laugh 50 years ago. It never gets old

I bought this set for my husband for Valentines Day (though I confess it was really for both of us). It's hysterically funny, if you like this kind of humor. I have found that people either love or hate Monty Python. And I think it's because so many people don't understand the humor. But for my husband and I, it's a love affair! We once owned all of these as they were sold by the Time Life Videos, but had a theft a few years ago. All of our vast DVD collection was part of the huge amounts that were stolen. We had replaced everything else by these very funny guys, and this set completed the collection once again. We love them. We spent the first weekend after I got them having a "Python Weekend".
