I bought "The Art of Final Fantasy IX" artbook last month, as I've recently become interested in collecting items about this great Squaresoft video game. As a fan of both Final Fantasy and animation art, it is a great book to have. It features rare sketches and artwork; of particular note are the sections dealing with the game's landscape sketches and very detailed sketches of the various aircrafts present in the game. There is also an extensive portion of the book devoted to the non-playable characters who are rarely represented in any official merchandise. If I had one complaint about this book, it would be that comparatively little space is devoted to the main characters themselves, which keeps me from giving this a higher rating. I would have liked to see as much attention to detail featuring characters like Zidane and Garnet as I saw about Townsperson #28. There were some very good sketches and artwork of the main characters, but much of the material featuring them seemed to be the same pictures seen everywhere else. Other than that, "The Art of Final Fantasy IX" is a beautiful book, and even if you haven't played the game that the book is about, I do recommend it if you are a fan of animation art as well. The organization of the book makes sense, a variety of different art styles and subjects are represented, and I would love to see more artbooks made like this one.Read full review
Final Fantasy IX is the FF I grew up with so to get an artbook full of memories and nostalgia, that's priceless to me on a sentimental level. The book itself is full of beautiful artwork from the last days of SquareSoft. If you're a fan of FFIX then I would highly recommend a copy if you can find one in good condition. I was extremely lucky in finding one with such minor damage and was able to doctor it.

I love it. It's made very well and ver fun to play and love the soundtrack. Why can't more games be like Final Fantasy. As with the other games in the series, Final Fantasy IX has the ability to grab your attention from the time you fire it up until the last boss is put down. Previous entries into the game's lineage took a more dramatic, cinematic route to do what a role-playing game does best--tell a story. That style led to some complaints from headstrong fans and role-playing gamers alike. In response to this, while not sacrificing what new technology they've built into the series, SquareSoft has backtracked a bit. To put it simply, they've gone back to their roots while forging ahead. When we last left the Final Fantasy characters, Princess Garnet was starting to break out of her shell and put to rest the notion that she was a snob. The kidnapping attempt by Zidane, oddly enough, started a few new friendships. Story elements continuously roll on, never leaving you to wonder for too long. Vivi, you may remember, started out as a Black Mage, and the Queen of Alexandria's story was left far from finished as well. But even players with no experience in this series can pick this up as a new game. Final Fantasy IX's story follows a group trying to stop Brahne, the evil Queen of Alexandria, in her quest to rule the world. Zidane, a skilled thief, teams with a young mage, a royal knight, and a princess, who all soon discover that the queen's threats are fronting an even more sinister plot involving a powerful sorcerer named Kuja. It's your job to control the eight playable characters--each of whom begin the game with one weapon, one piece of armor, and one special power--and to uncover Kuja's motives before he carries out his deadly plan.Read full review
As a fan of the Final Fantasy IX Game, I couldn't help but pick up the artbook 11 years ago, and then buy it again 11 years later. It's this masterpiece that displays the growing age of game illustration, background information, and highly in-depth art that makes me want to play the game again and again and again. The Final Fantasy IX artists and editors that brought this together have truly inspired me, not only because it strengthens my love for this game, but it also gives me the stamina and confidence to branch out my own artistic ability within the same field. Final Fantasy IX is and will always will be my favorite, not even til death part us, and the artists that made it happen also have the respect and love my heart expresses to the game and books themselves. I'd recommend this book to anyone who needs a string of unlimited fantasy in their life.Read full review
