Lightweight with great features.
The FZ7 is very good. Lightweight, easy to use controls, an amazing lens with Mega O.I.S and 12x zoom. All this makes the Lumix an excellent all-round camera.

This is a 6mp camera that has been replaced by a similar model which has a larger number of pixels. In fact 6mp gives good definition at quite large sizes and the camera takes really clear and sharp pictures. It has a very good 12x zoom lens that would be dreadfully long and heavy on a conventional film camera. The image stabiliser works well. There is, however, one feature I hate. The manual focus on Panasonic cameras used to be by a ring on the lens, which was fine. On this, manual focus is by a tiny lever on the back of the camera - a fiddly system that doesn't really work. Luckily, the auto focus is efficient. The camera is fairly small and light and generally works very well. However it only takes 2 gigabyte SD cards - and you have to be sure they are good quality, fast ones because ... There is a delay sometimes when you use the flash, which can be a nuisance when you are trying to take pictures in a fluid situation - ie, by the time the thing fires, the subject has moved. But on the whole, this camera takes better pictures than my old Nikon film camera - and it is much lighter and easier to cart around. These cameras cost around £70 secondhand in good condition and are a worthwhile alternative to buying a new camera of the same price.
