New quality as indicated. Price was very competitive. Arrived in good condition. The picture is of the 3rd Edition, but the 4th Edition was shipped, which was ok with me. Appearance is a little different as the cover isn't the same but again that's ok. Shipping seemed a little long, but I wasn't in a super hurry so a few more days was ok, plus it came book class which takes a little longer and tracking isn't as good. Overall, I would buy from again.

Excellent seller!! Exceptional communication!! Unfortunately, I had to ask seller to cancel my order, because it would not arrive on time due to negligence of USPS. But I had absolutely no issues with the seller, and was issued a prompt and hassle free cancellation, and full refund of my money for the book. THANKS so much for such a smooth transaction!! A++++++

  • Well worth reading

I bought this book because I read the author's book The Second World Wars, which I thought was fantastic. War Like No Other is very interesting. I knew very little about the Peloponnesian War, so for me I was plowing new ground. The author arranges the chapters by subject rather than chronology. Walls, Terror, Armour, etc. Personally I kind of like it when an author does not pedantically stick to delivering everything in chron order. Thus far the book has been very enlightening, but has also tended to be a bit repetitious, repeating in subsequent chapters things that have already been covered in earlier chapters, albeit in regard to different subjects. These are the only two books I have read by this author, and War Like No Other is one of his earlier books, whereas Second World ...

  • So many unknown facts on how the Greeks waged war

Victor Davis Hanson's book on the war of Sparta vs Athens is truly outstanding. He covers the many different ways the war was waged. Land battles, sea battles, etc. How it was to be in the middle of a phalanx, how it was to be on the bottom row of their trireme's. How their allies aligned with each of them. How horses were used, how crops came into play, the many ways the combatants died and the most startling fact is who won. As a military buff, this book is the top of the list on ancient warfare of the Greeks.
