Not as quiet as we thought.
While it's advertised as being quiet, there is a rattle in the newly designed damper that we cannot mitigate. The older dampers may have not been as air tight, but they did not vibrate or resonate.
It also appears that the fan cage itself is not well balanced (or not balanced at all), but this does not seem to the be the source of the rattle. The rattling only occurs when the fan is in the housing.
Installation is easy in a new install, but a bit challenging on a retrofit. Among other issues, be sure you are aware of where your exhaust pipe connects to the fan. In our case, the old fan exhausted on the right and the new on the left, so that meant more unexpected duct work.
There is also some sort of round black unmarked electrical dongle (transformer, perhaps), that hangs down near the plug. Nowhere in the instructions is this dongle identified nor is there any particular place that it seems to belong. We shoved it into the small housing next to the electrical box.
The grille seems to be especially cheaply made of inferior brittle plastic. I doubt it will last long and will not survive many install and remove cycles.
A bathroom exhaust fan is not something that should need to be replaced often. As such, I would recommend buying a higher quality fan, install it well, and forget it. This Broan product does not appear made to last long.
