The Chronicles of Riddick- "Dark Fury"
Although I enjoyed "Pitch Black" , the first movie to feature Vin Diesel's hard as nails anti-hero John Riddick , bad word of mouth and poor reviews put me off the follow up, " The Chronicles of Riddick". It was a couple of years later , when a friend recommended the movie , that I got round to watching it and I realised that in fact ,it was an overlooked gem of a film . Overblown , daft as all Hell and taking itself much too seriously , but a gem all the same . Anyhow , though I knew of the animated feature " Dark Fury" , I'd not been able to find a copy of the DVD until now . (To be honest , I'd not really given it much thought , but I had kept one eye open for it). The movie acts as a linking device between both the movies and as such is very sucessful . High production values and the ... High production values and the involvement of many of the top names in current Eastern animation result in a high quality production which should please both fans of "Anime" and the live action movies equally .My only real criticism is that the feature itself is a little short at about half an hour,and the story seems to end just as it's getting into it's stride,but I understand the reasons for it's brevity. After all,this was a direct to DVD production , not "Shrek The Third"! The disc is loaded with great extras,shedding light on not only "Dark Fury", but also the other two movies.In this age of sequels , remakes , re-imaginings and the like , the universe of John Riddick offers a refreshing alternative and deserves to be appreciated for what it is ,an imaginative ,original Science-Fiction franchise which was killed before it was given a chance to shine . Highly recommended .

I Decided to purchase the cronicles of Riddick-Dark Fury because I had recently Got Pitch Black and The Cronicles of Riddick Pretty Cheap so I thought I would complete the trilogy. I had not seen it in any shops and ones i did it was quite expensive so i looked on ebay and bought it for £1.04 Excluding postage. The film itself is very short but is excellent and really Bridged the Gap Between Pitch Black and Cronicles of Riddick it Explained why he had the Bounty hunters after him and what happened To the Preist and girl he rescued. I liked the fact it was a cartoon it made a change from the films and also childrens cartoons are not Graphic but this was very bloody and gory. I am a fan of Anime but these do not tend to be violent so it made a interesting change. If there was more i would ... A bit short but having Vin Diesel's smokey voice makes the character more believable than is usual for animated versions. However, although it does not reveal as much about Riddick as promised in the blurb, it is worth watching if you like the other two films. The quality of animation is very good and similar to many action comic strips. It is different in that you get movement and action instead of massive words like "thudd!" and "BLAMM!" written across the panels. "Dark Fury" is violent and dark, not for younger viewers who probably should nto have been exposed to the films anyway. The extras are almost as long as the 30 minutes of animation and an interesting insight into the mind behind the animated version. Do not buy it expectiung a rerun of either "Pitch Black" or "The Chronicles of Riddick" as you may be disappointed. Get it as something that adds to the story behind the character. I enjoyed it and would like to see more of Riddick both animated or in films.

A good dvd completes my Riddick Collection from Pitch Black,The Chronicles of Riddick to video game Escape from butchers Bay.A nice join up story and tells you what happens after Pitch Black and before The Chronicles of Riddick but only a little bit short this dvd fo 33 mins in total,it has extras and bonus to it thats makes it better. it contains a decent amount of fighting actually so is not so bad from fighting mercentary soldiers to vicious creatures.A good dvd completes my Riddick Collection from Pitch Black,The Chronicles of Riddick to video game Escape from butchers Bay.A nice join up story and tells you what happens after Pitch Black and before The Chronicles of Riddick but only a little bit short this dvd fo 33 mins in total,it has extras and bonus to it thats makes it better. it contains a decent amount of fighting actually so is not so bad from fighting mercentary soldiers to vicious creatures.

This DVD takes place between the films Pitch black and Chronicles of Riddick (both great flicks). Riddick is voiced by Vin himself making this worth the money IMO. The animation is a little abstract but the back story is interesting if you are a big enough Riddick fan. It’s kind of on the short side around 30 mins in total.
